JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) - Six people have been injured after a house explosion in Jefferson City early Saturday morning.

According to the Jefferson City Fire Department, the explosion happened around 3 a.m. on the 2400 block of St. Louis Road.

EMS crews on the scene used critical care interventions, including advanced airway procedures and the administration of CyanoKits (Hydroxocobalamin). Fire officials say two of the patients were flown to the University Hospital in Columbia, and the remaining four were taken by ambulance to the University Hospital.

The Jefferson City Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT) had to carefully tunnel through layers of debris to reach the final patient, who required intensive extrication. Officials say all people were out of the house by around 6 a.m. The injuries range from moderate to severe.

According to the fire department, two pets were rescued from the house as well and are with animal control.

Fire officials are still investigating what caused the explosion.

Crews who responded were eight units from the Jefferson City Fire Department and Jefferson City Police Department, 37 fire and EMS personnel, nine advanced life support ambulances, three Chief Officers, and three medical helicopters. Mutual aid was provided by Osage, Callaway, and Mid-Mo Ambulance Districts, MU Air Medical, Mercy LifeLine, and AirEvac Lifeteam.

The Jefferson City Public Works Department also provided an excavator to assist with debris removal.
