Rochester, NY (WHAM) - Lake effect snow will kick into gear over the upcoming weekend. But this time, the focus will remain away from the immediate Rochester area. But if you'll be travelling south of Buffalo, or north of Syracuse , this weekend, expect some major impacts to travel.
Through Friday and Friday night, most of the lake effect snow inside western New York will remain through the western Southern Tier. The northernmost extent of the band will graze southern towns of Wyoming County, and even southern portions on Livingston County. Some towns in southern Wyoming County could see 3 to 6 inches of accumulation through Saturday morning, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation on hilltops of southern Livingston County through Saturday morning. Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for Genesee and Wyoming Counties, and points west and south of those areas.
Into the day on Saturday, the band will likely migrate northward, encompassing more of Wyoming County, and especially the Buffalo Southtowns.
For the longer-term through next week, expect below-average temperatures to remain in place. Highs will generally be in the 30s, with lows in the 20s. Additional snow accumulation will occur on Sunday as well, as the lake effect event continues.
