Try Cameo, the social platform in which celebrities are paid to send personalized videos to their fans.

That is what Matt Gaetz, the former congressman from Florida, is doing just days after withdrawing his bid to be attorney general in the incoming Trump administration and confirming in an interview on “The Charlie Kirk Show” that he does not intend to return to Congress next year despite winning re-election.

He’s available for birthday wishes (“Any time you hit a zero it’s a big one, but turning 70 is pretty epic”), wedding congratulations (“Marriage is an amazing institution”) and pep talks (“Even on tough days, find the good in it, find the pride in the work”) — all starting at $500.

Mr. Gaetz is happy to poke fun at his professional setback, contrasting his failed nomination with the success of one of his Cameo customers who just became a partner in a law firm.

But Mr. Gaetz, who did not respond to a request for comment, is also ever the good soldier for far right politics, telling one fan, “I know you’re bummed out I’m not going to be taking out the garbage at the Department of Justice.”

Some might say it’s a little soon, and in somewhat poor taste — after all, Mr. Gaetz’s nomination ran aground over an investigation by a congressional ethics panel into accusations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.
