Deputies are currently on the scene of an active incident involving a shooting at Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventist in Palermo, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).

Authorities said students are being taken to the Oroville Church of the Nazarene, aka OroNaz Church, located at 2238 Monte Vista Avenue.

The BCSO said their office received multiple 911 calls at around 1 p.m. regarding an adult male firing shots at students. Multiple agencies immediately responded to the scene and located the shooter. When located, the HCSO said the shooter was dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two students sustained gunshot wounds, according to officials, with one student being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The BCSO said parents are asked to respond to the church to be reunified with their children.

The California Highway Patrol said State Rout 70 is closed to northbound traffic at East Gridley Road. They said traffic is being diverted west to State Route 299. Southbound SR-70 is closed to southbound traffic at Power House Hill Road. They said traffic is being diverted east to Lone Tree Road. Closures are expected for at least another hour.
