Most of CNY experienced wet or slushy roads on Thanksgiving Day making it easy for driving to and from family dinners.
Now we are tracking some heavy and persistent lake effect snow remaining mostly east of Lake Ontario and north of Syracuse through Sunday where weather alerts have been posted.
The cause of the lake effect snow is some colder air crossing the relatively warmer lake surface water temperatures:

A wind shift to more west-northwest will bring the lake effect snow band south into and around Syracuse impacting the Monday morning and evening drive.

Our overall weather pattern looks to stay colder than average with lake effect snow returning back up north after Tuesday right through the end of the week.
