FRANKFORT, Ky. (WYMT) - An autopsy was conducted by the State Medical Examiner on the body that was recovered near Exit 49 in the Daniel Boone National Forest.

The body is believed to be of the I-75 mass shooter Joseph Couch. However, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. William Ralston states that office performed a soft tissue DNA test where results were inconclusive.

A deeper test will be conducted tomorrow and results will be released when they are available.

“At this time, we are able to confirm that the autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a wound consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head,” said Dr. Ralston.

The official autopsy report will not be available for release until toxicology results return.
