President-elect Donald Trump is searching for a new candidate for treasury secretary amid a deadlock between the two front-runners for the position, according to three people with knowledge of the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the selection process.
Trump had considered hedge fund executive Scott Bessent and Trump transition co-chair Howard Lutnick for the position. But allies of Bessent and Lutnick have traded criticisms over the past week, and it is now possible that neither candidate gets the appointment.
