NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The NOPD is investigating two shootings in St. Roch Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17) that left 10 people injured and two dead.
The first incident occurred at approximately 3:38 p.m. in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue.
NOPD says officers assigned to a second line reported hearing gunfire and responded to find eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
All were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
About 45 minutes later, officers responded to a second shooting at the intersection of Almonaster and Florida avenues.
Upon arrival, officers found two victims at the scene. One was pronounced dead on-site, and the second was taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
A third victim from this incident reportedly sought medical attention privately and is listed in stable condition.
NOPD shut down the second-line event as part of the investigation. Police emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, with detectives working to identify suspects, determine a motive, and gather additional information.
The shootings have drawn responses from state leaders. Governor Jeff Landry tweeted, “A tragic scene in the St. Roch neighborhood this evening. Sharon and I are praying for all involved and we are grateful to the first responders who rushed to the scene. The violence must end.”
