Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren took a potshot at US President-elect Donald Trump's decision to pick Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former Indian-American presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency.

"The Office of Government Efficiency is off to a great start with split leadership: two people to do the work of one person. Yeah, this seems REALLY efficient," Warren wrote in a post on X.

Her remark came hours after Trump named billionaire Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to clean up the federal bureaucracy.

In a separate tweet, Warren further criticised Trump's decision, saying that their appointment should be rejected. "Donald Trump's picks will make us less safe and must be rejected," she wrote.

She also remarked, "A Fox and Friends weekend co-host is not qualified to be the Secretary of Defence. I lead the Senate military personnel panel. All three of my brothers served in uniform. I respect every one of our servicemembers."

According to Trump, the newly established entity will operate independently of the formal government structure.

In an earlier statement, former US President said Musk and Ramaswamy, "will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies."
