Veteran's Day is recognized annually on Nov. 11.

One of 11 federal holidays observed each year, Veterans Day is set aside to recognize and honor members of the military for their service to our country.

Originally designated as “Armistice Day” by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919, the day was established to honor veterans of World War I. However, in 1954, Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed it a holiday for all U.S. veterans, and we still mark the November holiday to this day.

This year, Veterans Day lands on a Monday, providing a three-day weekend to those who have the day off.
