Republicans are on the brink of clinching control of the US House of Representatives, a critical element for Donald Trump to advance his agenda when he returns to the White House in January. With votes still being counted from the November 5 general election, Republicans had won 213 seats in the 435-member House, according to Edison Research, which projected last night that Representative Dan Newhouse had enough votes to keep Republican control of Colorado's 3rd congressional district. Republicans need to win five more seats to keep control of the House and they already have enough victories to wrest control of the Senate from Democrats, though Edison Research projected late Friday that Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen won reelection in Nevada.

Moody's ratings suggest India and other Asian countries may benefit due to the rising US-China tensions and potential investment restrictions in strategic sectors after Donald Trump's return to the White House. "In Asia-Pacific region, trade and investment flows might be further diverted away from China as the US tightens investments in strategic sectors, which would negatively affect China's economy and consequently dampen regional growth. However, this shift might benefit India and ASEAN countries," the global rating agency said. The global agency anticipates a significant shift under the Trump administration across fiscal, trade, climate, and immigration issues, departing from the approach of the administration of the current US President Joe Biden.

Donald Trump has won Arizona as Republicans snatched the state and its 11 electoral votes from the Democrats. It was won by Trump in 2016 as well. Trump's victory dims the hopes of the Arizona Democrats, who sought to continue their ascendance, which began with the 2018 flip of a longtime GOP-held Senate seat and continued in 2020 and 2022. Biden was only the second Democrat to win Arizona in 70 years.

Donald Trump has ruled out re-appointing two senior figures from his first administration, ex-secretary of state Mike Pompeo and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley. Trump wrote on his Truth Social network that he "will not be inviting" either figure to join his administration. Pompeo had outlined a hawkish plan for Ukraine in July involving more weapons transfers and tough action against Russia's energy sector which analysts noted on Saturday was at odds with Trump's campaign statements. Haley ran against Trump in the Republican primary this year before endorsing him, but she offered at times blunt advice such as when she urged him to "quit whining" about Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.

Iran has signalled an openness towards Donald Trump, calling on him to adopt new policies towards it after Washington accused Tehran of involvement in a plot to kill him. Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif urged the US president-elect to reassess the policy of "maximum pressure" he employed against the Islamic republic during his first term. "Trump must show that he is not following the wrong policies of the past," Zarif told reporters.

Joe Biden will meet with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday after the US leader pledged an orderly transfer of power back to the Republican he beat in elections just four years ago. This type of meeting between the outgoing and incoming presidents was considered customary, but Trump did not invite Biden for one after making unsubstantiated election fraud claims that culminated in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Trump also broke with precedent by skipping Biden's inauguration, but the White House has said the Democratic president will attend the upcoming ceremony.
