A man was taken into custody after five people were stabbed in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District Friday afternoon.

The stabbings happened near the intersection of 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street around 2 p.m. Friday.

Thefour victims were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment and one other person was released at the scene. A Harborview spokesperson said the four victims were in "critical" condition as of 4:45 p.m. Friday.

a suspect was located near the scene and taken into custody without incident.Detectives with the homicide/assault unit were , who is between 30-40 years old. Barden said a “weapon was recovered from within the vicinity” of the suspect, and that another knife was still in one of the victims that was taken to the hospital.

A total of 10 people were stabbed in the CID in about a roughly 37-hour period,

All lanes of South Jackson Street were blocked between 12th Avenue South and 10th Avenue for over an hour while Seattle police and fire crews were at the scene. The all lanes reopened to traffic around 3:30 p.m.

Witnesses to Friday’s attack said the suspect walked up and stabbed the victims with no provocation or interaction.

“He was just cold as ice running around stabbing people,” said Kevin Greiner. “I see a man stab him in the back with a big knife, the knife stuck in his back. I’m freaking out - my friend is on the ground dying, and I don’t want to lose him.”

Greiner said he and others were in the area last night during the previous attacks.

“We were all in shock from last night, seeing our friends get stabbed,” he said.

Barden said the first victim who was stabbed early Thursday morning was a woman, and that “every other victim in this incident has been a male.”All 10 stabbing victims were alive as of 3 p.m. Friday.

“It’s certainly plausible that the suspect involved in today’s stabbing is the same suspect involved with the previous five incidents, but the investigation is ongoing, and we will determine that and there will be additional information forthcoming,” .

Barden said only one of the previous stabbings was a robbery and a cellphone was stolen, “the rest of them were just random attacks, as this appears to be today.”

Police said one of the ten victims is a female, and the other nine are males. No victims died, but some of the injured victims are in critical condition at the hospital.

In a statement Friday evening, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell described the stabbings as “horrific, appalling, and shouldn’t occur anywhere in our city.”

““Every person deserves to feel and be safe, and I remain committed to using every tool available to improve the safety of Little Saigon and the historic Chinatown-International District for all residents, workers, and visitors,” Harrell said. “We will continue to take a proactive approach to this ongoing challenge – increasing law enforcement resources and patrols to quickly respond to and deter illegal activities, implementing evidence-based technology to prevent and solve crimes, and holding those who cause harm accountable for their actions.”

The that detectives with the homicide and assault unit have yet to confirm if all of the crimes are related.
