Election Day polls are now open across North Carolina, a pivotal battleground state that could influence whether Republican candidate former President Donald Trump returns to the White House or Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the first female head of state.
Polls opened at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and will remain open until 7:30 p.m. Unlike early voting, voters must go to their designated polling location on Election Day. Anyone in line at their assigned location by 7:30 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
In addition to the presidential race, North Carolina residents will elect a new governor on Tuesday. Democratic candidate Josh Stein and Republican Mark Robinson are the frontrunners vying for the seat of outgoing Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat who has led the state for two consecutive terms.
In the mountains, Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards is seeking reelection for the District 11 seat in the U.S. House against Democratic challenger Caleb Rudow.
