Daylight saving time will end this weekend, at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024. Most devices these days will adjust automatically to the time change, but don’t forget to set any traditional clocks back by one hour.
If you thought we were nearly done with seasonal time changes, we can’t blame you.
There have been several efforts to do away with the practice – at the state, regional and national levels – but none so far have been successful.
Over the past few years, Oregon, Washington and California have all made multiple attempts to permanently switch to either standard or daylight saving time without success.
Changing to year-round daylight saving time requires congressional approval – and that approval doesn’t appear to be likely, despite a bipartisan desire for the change.
Permanent standard time is within Oregon’s power to enact, but so far the Oregon legislature has declined to consider the plan.
So, until one of those efforts finds success, we’ll continue to change our clocks twice a year.
