TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The deadly mass shooting in Orlando has many people in the Tampa Bay area concerned, especially in popular nightlife areas already hit by gun violence.
In May, a gunman opened fire in Tampa’s SoHo neighborhood on South Howard Avenue, killing two people.
The busy corridor is a hotspot for crowds during big events like Halloween.
Last year, Halloween celebrations in Ybor City turned tragic when gunfire erupted in the middle of a crowd.
16 people were injured and two people were killed in the shooting.
Now, after the overnight shooting in Orlando, questions about safety are resurfacing once again.
“It’s already happened in our neighborhood,” Ginny Crabtree said. “We’ve had shootings. We’ve had deaths. I don’t think there’s any neighborhood that can escape it because there doesn’t seem to be a pattern except guns.”
Several residents in the SoHo district are calling for more community meetings with city leaders to discuss neighborhood safety.
