UPDATE: Warm Halloween turns into a record-breaker in N.J. region
We’re not expecting any complaints from trick-or-treaters this year, with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures in the forecast for Halloween 2024 in the New Jersey region.
In fact, some parts of our region could get close to hitting record highs for Oct. 31, according to data from the National Weather Service.
As trick-or-treaters hit the streets, afternoon temperatures on Thursday are expected to climb very close to 80 degrees in many areas and possibly a couple of degrees higher than that, taking a crack at weather records that have held up since the 1940s.
In the Newark area, the warmest Halloween high was 82 degrees, set back in 1946. In the Trenton area, the Halloween record is 81 degrees, and in the Atlantic City area it’s 83 degrees.
Those records also were set in 1946 — the same year Halloween record highs were notched in Philadelphia (82 degrees) and in New York City’s Central Park (81 degrees), according to data from the National Weather Service.
The graphics in this post show the Top 5 warmest Halloweens recorded in Newark, New York City, Atlantic City and Trenton.
Worth noting: The normal high for Oct. 31 ranges from 60 to 62 degrees in our region, so temperatures on Thursday could be running about 20 degrees warmer than usual.
That’s a welcome Halloween treat from Mother Nature.
