Hate speech was woven through the fiery words and crude jokes of Donald Trump’s rally Sunday at Madison Square Garden, an event that analysts say showcased how bigoted language has infused the Trump campaign and the messaging of many Republicans.

The event featured Trump allies who demonized immigrants — especially Latinos and Muslims — along with a comedian who called Puerto Rico an “island of garbage,” referenced watermelons in a racist stereotype and invoked the antisemitic trope that Jewish people are stingy with money.
