ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Police Department has responded to an armed person at the Four Seasons hotel in Midtown and police have issued a shelter-in-place order for those in the area.
Police said they responded to a “demented person” call. They have not said who the person at the center of the call or what led up to the call to respond to the hotel. A SWAT team has also responded to the scene.
An Atlanta News First crew reported hearing what sounded like gunshots and an explosion at the scene.
An Atlanta police officer told Atlanta News First the person is believed to be armed with a large caliber rifle.
“Out of an abundance of caution, units have set up a perimeter to safely investigate the matter,” police said in a statement. “Citizens within site of the Four Seasons Hotel are advised to avoid any windows and rooms facing the area.”
Police said 14 St NE at W Peachtree St NE and Crescent Ave NE, 13th St NE at W Peachtree St NE and Crescent Ave NE and the Peachtree Walk will be closed.
The Midtown Neighbors Association said on Instagram a heavy law enforcement presence is on the residence side of the building. It is not clear how, if at all, guests of the hotel are impacted.
A 53-story building, there are also 90 luxury condos at the Four Seasons hotel.
