When is 2024 Atlantic hurricane season? June 1 to Nov. 30, with the busiest months between August and October.

Days after Hurricane Milton brought torrential rain and devastated parts of Florida in its wake, tropical activity is quiet — for now.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami released its last advisory on the remnants of Tropical Storm Leslie on Oct. 12, however, experts there are monitoring another tropical system, AL94, by the Cabo Verde Islands. AL94 has a low chance of formation this week as of Sunday, Oct. 13.

The hurricane center also reported an early season cold front moving through the Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures were expected to dip into the low 60s, and even 50s in some areas of Florida this week, like Jacksonville and Tallahassee.

The National Weather Service said a localized area of heavy rain potential exists over southeast Florida today before thunderstorm activity pushes east away from the Sunshine State on Monday. A few thunderstorms may exhibit slow forward motion while containing intense rainfall rates over the sensitive urban corridor of southeast Florida, which may lead to localized flash flooding.

People in Florida and the Southeast continue picking up the pieces and waiting for floodwaters to recede from this week's Hurricane Milton and last month's Hurricane Helene. Below are photo galleries of Hurricane Milton’s aftermath in Florida along with real-time rain radars.

Where is AL94, the tropical weather system far out in the Atlantic?

Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL94): As of 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, shower and thunderstorm activity remains limited with a well-defined area of low pressure located several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system is currently embedded in an unfavorable environment and development is not anticipated over the next couple of days. However, this system is forecast to move generally westward to west-southwestward, and environmental conditions could become more favorable for additional development by the mid to latter part of this week. A tropical depression could form as the system begins moving west-northwestward and approaches or moves near the Leeward Islands by the end of this week.

Formation chance through 48 hours is low at 10 percent.

Formation chance through 7 days is medium at 40 percent.
