Trump security 'enhanced': Mayorkas

Mayorkas told attendees at a Politico summit Tuesday afternoon in Washington that the DHS agency had increased the Republican presidential nominee?s level of protection.
?Should [Trump] get the same level of security as sitting presidents? There?s now been bipartisan calls for that,? Politico Magazine senior writer Ankush Khardori asked.
?The United States Secret Service has indeed enhanced the former president?s security posture so that he is receiving a level of security commensurate with the fact that he?s a former president and on the campaign trail and so his alignment with the security posture of our president is, in fact, quite approximate,? Mayorkas said.
On Sunday afternoon, suspect Ryan Routh was arrested after bringing an assault rifle, GoPro camera, and other gear to Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he had set up on the perimeter of the golf course.
Trump was not shot, but federal agents on the scene opened fire on Routh, who was positioned one hole ahead of Trump. Routh fled the scene and was pulled over by an entourage of law enforcement officers on Interstate 95 shortly after.
Acting Secret Service Director Ronald L. Rowe told reporters Monday afternoon that agents had not searched the perimeter of the golf course prior to Trump?s arrival.

The admission has caused further speculation as to why Trump, now a target of two assassination attempts in two months, has not received greater security given the success that would-be assassins have had getting within shooting distance of the former president.
During a July campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a 20-year-old gunman shot at Trump while he addressed attendees at an outdoor rally.
