SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A 17-year-old girl from Ohio has admitted to cutting off a tanker truck, leading to after spilling a toxic chemical, according to a federal report.
The incident occurred last year in Illinois. The report states that the truck was forced off the road when the driver allowed the girl's car to re-enter the right lane to avoid a head-on collision with oncoming traffic.
The truck then lost control and spilled ammonia.
Five people died as a result of chemical exposure, and only the truck driver survived.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said its latest findings are a factual account and do not include analysis or conclusions, which are expected to be released later.
