New Jersey will have one more day of sunny, dry weather on Monday before conditions turn cloudier and more unsettled with the state potentially being lashed by heavy rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as Tropical Depression 8 works its way north.
Monday is expected to be pleasant with highs in the low-to-mid 70s before clouds increase and temperatures fall into the 60s overnight. For beachgoers, there’s a high risk of rip currents in the ocean and nearly all beaches are unguarded on a mid-September Monday, so swimmers should be very cautious about entering the ocean.
There’s also a coastal flood advisory in effect along the Jersey Shore from 6 p.m. to midnight. Spotty minor and minor flooding is expected.
Tropical Depression 8 is off the coast of South Carolina on Monday morning and will slowly push its way inland over the Carolinas the next several days, forecasters say.
We’ll see very little sun Tuesday in New Jersey, though we should remain rain-free all day and into the evening as our long run of terrific, late-summer weather comes to an end. Highs will climb into the mid 70s.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible later Tuesday night into Wednesday in South Jersey, especially in areas south of Philadelphia, the National Weather Service said in its Monday morning forecast discussion.
The tropical depression won’t pass directly over New Jersey, though cloudy conditions and showers are possible on both Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will be in the 70s during the day and the 60s at night.
The weather service said there’s a 20 to 40% chance of rain on Thursday and Friday.
