Despite a soggy start to the weekend, the remnants of Hurricane Helene that rocked several southern states is not anticipated to have much impact on New Jersey.
The National Weather Service in Mt. Holly said Saturday that what is left of Helene is likely to continue weakening over the weekend and into Monday.
Saturday’s forecast for New Jersey is expected to be a mix of rain and sun across the state.
Cool and wet conditions are expected across the majority of the state north of Burlington and Ocean Counties, according to the National Weather Service’s Saturday morning forecast.
Some sun is expected to the south of Burlington and Ocean Counties along with higher temperatures, according to forecasts.
Forecasts from the National Weather Service show the heaviest remnants of Helene staying safely west of New Jersey.
Heavy rain is expected to linger over portions of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys through Sunday morning which could still cause localized flash flooding, according to the weather service’s morning update Saturday.
Helene is expected to drift east into the Mid-Atlantic region later Sunday which could bring heavy rain to sections of Appalachia and the Mid-Atlantic region from Sunday into Monday.
New Jersey is likely to continue to see light rain bands across portions of the state through Monday and is unlikely to see the worst of Helene’s heavy rain production, according to the National Weather Service forecasts.
