A suspect is in custody after an "improvised explosive device”rocked a California courthouse Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Six people were injured after the blast in Santa Maria, a spokesperson for Marian Regional Medical Center said. Three are in fair condition, two are in good condition, and the condition of a sixth was unknown.
The explosion at the courthouse in Santa Maria, a city about 150 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, occurred around 8:45 a.m., officials said.
“Explosion was from an intentionally set improvised explosive device,” Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Raquel Zick said on X.
A man was taken into custody shortly after deputies responded to the incident, the sheriff's department said.
Deputies cordoned off the courthouse neighborhood and focused on a parked car, linked to the man in custody, officials said.
"This stage of the investigation is slow moving and detectives don’t believe there are any additional outstanding suspects. The bomb team is processing the scene and the suspect is still being interviewed," Zick said.
