UPDATE: The FBI on Monday announced it is offering a $50,000 reward in the case. That reward will be matched by another $50,000 from Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples announced the reward for information on arrest and conviction. Frank Barefield of CrimeStoppers said its reward is the largest ever offered by them. The previous record was $25,000 after the abuduction of Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney.

The 3-year-old was abducted from a birthday party in 2019 and later found murdered. Two people were arrested and convicted.

Police also said 12 of the injured shooting victims were released from hospitals. Another five remain hospitalized.

Detectives have received a significant number of tips, police said.

The Birmingham Police Department this morning is expected to provide an update on Saturday night’s mass shooting in Five Points South that killed four people and injured 17 others.

Police identified the four people killed as Antria Holloman, 21, Tahj Booker, 27, Carlos McCain, 27, and Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26.

Thus far, there have been no arrests in a case Police Chief Scott Thurmond has described as a “hit” on one of the four people killed in the shooting.

“We believe there was a hit, if you will, on that particular person, where someone was willing to pay money to have that person killed,’’ the chief said Sunday morning.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue South, as people were standing in line to get into Hush, a hookah and cigar lounge.

More than 100 shots from at least one fully automatic weapon were fired in the deadly shooting that sent people running in terror from the bustling entertainment dictrict.

Police say a gun with a Glock switch was among the weapons fired.

Mayor Randall Woodfin called on state lawmakers to ban Glock switches.

“Glock switches are federally outlawed. And while they’re outlawed on my left hand, you also have Congress not giving ATF the actual organization design to enforce and take them off the street. You’re cutting their resources at the federal level,’’ he said.

“You see, we are prepared to be overly aggressive, dogmatic if you will and go after every shooter in the city. But as it stands, they can ride around with no permit, they can ride around with any type of gun,’’ the mayor said. “If you want to protect your home, cool. But what are you going to do for us, the people who you say are responsible for public safety?”
